Recently I became interested in the flap over the recent songs of Robin Thicke and the 35 year old songs of Marvin Gaye. The subject was recently in the news because of the Sam Smith and Tom Petty situation which seems to be peacefully settled by both parties in an amicable manner. The lawyers for Robin Thicke seem to be in a less friendly state of mind, and I thought I would review the songs in question and see what I thought of all this. There were three songs mentioned and so I acquired them and started to listen. I put them up together vertically and looked for similarities. Very quickly the drum line jumped out in a remarkable way. I adjusted the tempo very slightly and found that the drums were not similar, but identical in places.
