We will take a look at the stats for another song that has been in the Billboard top ten for a while. 'Side to Side' by Arianna Grande. It is an average job for these times...True peak level of +2.1 dB results in 231 clipped samples. LKFS is -9.4 dB, Dynamic Loudness range is 4.7 dB. DC offset is +0.068% left channel and +0.064% right channel. Sample peaks at 0 dB. I will show you what the clipped samples look like below...This is why you keep true peaks below 0dB. DC offset should be 0, obviously. At least the LKFS figure of -9.4 dB is not as bad as the usual -8 or less that we are used to seeing in the Billboard top ten. The dynamic range is typical of most pop songs. We have seen worse. (see the chart from a previous blog) The EQ is basically good, except for the excessive 10k to 14k bump. Here are the numbers... So we see some progress back to good mastering technique. We still have a ways to go and I will keep logging the inconsistencies and problems for you. It will be interesting to see what the Grammy CD will look like. I will analyse the tracks when I get the CD.
