Time for a level check on the top ten Billboard list.  The random song that I chose to check is Starboy, by 'The Weekend' with Daft Punk.
Picture
You can see that it has the typical modern lack of dynamics.  The clipped samples are not bad for modern mastering jobs.  The left channel has 26 clipped samples, and the right channel has 18 clipped samples.
The LKFS level is -8.8 dB, the true peak max is +0.8 dB, and the DC offset is about  +.071 %.  The EQ curve that you see on the left shows a pretty good balance with a slight bump at 55Hz and a slight dip at 80Hz.  Compared to some of the others that we have looked at, it is, all in all, not a bad job.  As we saw last month,  it may indicate a slight turn in the right direction.  Thanks to Izotope for their superb product that so quickly can analyse and also fix these songs.  This is RX4 Advanced and it is used on everything that I do.  There is a newer version out, but I have not found a need to change, yet.  While we are talking about Izotope, I also use Ozone 6 on everything, ( yes, they have Ozone 7 out), and for mixing, Neutron is on every track.  You can't beat the price or the performance of their  products.
